Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how FishReel ("FishReel," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the FishReel mobile application (the "App"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

This policy is written for a general U.S. audience. It does not include GDPR-specific disclosures for users in the EU/UK or CCPA/CPRA-specific disclosures beyond what's included in Section 7.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Account information: email address, password, and display name when you register.
  • Profile photo: an image you choose to upload, if you set one.
  • Content you post: photos, videos, and captions you share to the feed, and comments you leave on posts.

Information collected automatically

  • Account identifiers: a unique user ID generated by our authentication provider (not visible to other users).
  • Timestamps: when your posts, comments, and follows were created.
  • Interactions: activity such as likes on posts and comments.
  • Follow relationships: which other users you follow. This determines which posts appear in your "Hooked" feed.
  • Push notification token: a device identifier used only to deliver notifications (for example, when someone comments on your post or replies to your comment). It's removed when you sign out.

FishReel does not collect your precise location, contacts, or browsing activity, and does not use analytics or advertising SDKs. We do not sell your personal information.

Camera, microphone, and photo library access

If you choose to add a profile photo, or a photo or video to a post, the App will ask for permission to access your camera and photo library. Recording a video also requires microphone access, so your video's audio can be captured. We only access the specific photo or video you select or capture — the App does not scan or access your broader photo library.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and maintain your account
  • Display your posts, comments, and profile photo to other users of the App
  • Show you posts from people you follow in your Hooked feed
  • Let you like, comment on, and share posts
  • Send you push notifications about activity on your posts and comments
  • Respond to support requests
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the App

3. How Information Is Shared

With other users: FishReel is a social app. Your display name, profile photo, posts (photos and videos), captions, and comments are visible to other people who use the App. When you share a post outside the App (for example, to X or Facebook), the shared link may show a preview of that post's photo and caption to whoever views it, even if they don't have the App installed.

With service providers: We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Messaging) to store account information, app content, and deliver push notifications. Firebase hosts this data on Google Cloud infrastructure. Google acts as our data processor and does not use this data for its own purposes. We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.

Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FishReel, our users, or others.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active.

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Account → Delete Account in the App. Deleting your account removes your profile information, your posts (including any photos and videos), your comments, your likes, and your follow relationships.

You can also edit or delete individual posts at any time without deleting your account.

5. Data Security

We use commercially reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including access controls on our database and file storage that restrict who can read, create, modify, or delete data. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children's Privacy

FishReel is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the information below.

7. Your Choices and Rights

You can:

  • Update your display name and profile photo at any time in the App
  • Edit or delete your posts at any time
  • Follow or unfollow other users at any time
  • Delete your account and associated posts/comments at any time
  • Contact us to ask what information we hold about you, or to request its deletion

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we've collected and the right to request its deletion. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
